Rinda Ubuzima is a Rwanda-based health research organization committed to improving health outcomes through clinical research, social science, and community engagement. Established in 2001 and legally registered as a Local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) by the Rwanda Governance Board.
We work in close collaboration with the Rwanda Ministry of Health, national institutions, and international partners. With a strong countrywide footprint and regional engagement in East and Central Africa, Rinda Ubuzima translates scientific evidence into practical solutions that promote health, disease prevention, and treatment.
Founded as Projet Ubuzima by Prof. Joep Lange from the University of Amsterdam, bringing meticulous, community-based health research in Rwanda.
Under Prof. Janneke van de Wijgert and the IATEC team, the organization broadened its research scope and built the scientific partnerships that still underpin our work today.
Rinda Ubuzima transitioned from an international NGO to a fully Rwandan-led local NGO, placing local expertise and leadership at the center of the organization.
Licensed by the Rwanda Governance Board as a local NGO, formalizing our status as a government-recognized research partner.
Operating across Rwanda, with a growing regional footprint in Africa, partnering with Ministries of Health, universities and international research institutions to deliver evidence-based health solutions.
Aspiring to be a leading health research organization advancing knowledge in health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment in Rwanda and the region.
